Hi, beautiful, yesterday my husband and I were talking about the versatility of coconut oil and it got me thinking about some of favourite DIY recipes. I’ve been using these recipes as part of my skin & hair care regime for a while now and have made them for friends and family as gifts. They are always a hit. So today I am sharing my top 3 coconut oil infused recipes with you. The best part, they are all simple to make and all provide so many benefits for the hair and body.
Coconut oil is made up of mostly fatty acids like Lauric, Capric, and Capryl. These essentials fats keel the skin hydrated and soft, add in the vitamin E (which is loaded with anti-oxidants) and you’ve got a powerhouse that keeps the skin young and moist.
It’s soooo good for the hair too. It’ll keep your hair strong and healthy and will help to moisturize the scalp too. Because the hair is made up of long amino acid chains that contain high levels of protein, coconut oil is packed with restorative proteins and vitamin E that increase body and shine.
The Lauric and Capric acids allow the oil to easily penetrate the hair shaft and moisture the cuticle at the same time.
I’ve added other innovative ingredients these 3 homemade DIY’s that will all enhance the effects of the coconut oil.
So without further ado, here are the 3recipes:
1. Coconut Oil Hair Conditioner
This recipe is meant to do two things, nourish and moisturize your hair. The egg yolk works alongside the coconut oil to deeply condition your hair. Unlike harsh chemicals (found in many hair products) that strip the hair of its natural oils, eggs actually restore your hair’s natural oil.
The coconut milk is packed full of essential fatty acids, vitamins and nutrients, all helping to heal the hair!
The yolk is crammed wth proteins, vitamins, and fatty acids that promote hair growth. How do I like my eggs? Umm, in a hair treatment, please!
2. Coconut Water Hair Treatment
You can drink your way to better health by adding coconut water to your diet.
But applying raw coconut water is a fabulous way to deeply moisturize and condition your hair. It’s also going to help with dryness and frizziness, hello winter right? The B vitamins and potassium in coconut water will help keep your scalp healthy and aid in hair growth too!
3. Coconut Hot Oil Treatment
Our hair takes a beating every day. Washing it, blow drying it, brushing it, adding products to it and then factor in the environmental issues like wind, cold and heat and you’ve got a recipe for dry damaged hair. Applying a good hot oil treatment regularly can help heal your hair. Coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft, making it more manageable. Sounds good right? The most important thing to remember is like the rest of the body, the hair needs daily TLC too. I love to add essential oils to my DIY’s when used properly, essential oils have som many benefits. I’ve given you two options for adding essential oils. Ylang ylang, bergamot and clove (2 drops of each) or lemongrass, lemon, lavender, rosemary (2 drops of each).
If you try this recipe, I’d love to see a photo, tag @candicebatista on social media and use the hashtag #TheEcoHub, I’d love to see your creations.
Conclusion: These 3 easy, DIY recipes (using coconuts) will condition, nourish, soften and moisturize your hair! I hope you’ll give them a try. Don’t let DIY scare you. Just go for it. Do you have a favourite DIY hair recipe? Tell me about it in the comments below.
